  • The current version of Carbonite works for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, and Mac OS X 10.6.

Which Operating Systems Carbonite Supports

The current version of Carbonite is designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, in both standard 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Carbonite will not support older versions of Windows (Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows ME) or Linux operating systems.

Carbonite is also available for all Intel-based Macs running OS 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Carbonite will also not support older versions of Macs (PowerPCs, and non-intel Macs).

While we did not specifically develop for nor test Carbonite on Windows Server operating systems in-house (such as Windows Server 2003 & 2008), some of our customers have used Carbonite successfully on these operating systems. Because Windows Server configurations vary, our best recommendation for Windows Server is to install a free Carbonite trial on your Windows Server machine, back up some data, and do a test restore of the files you backed up to make sure Carbonite will work in your Windows Server environment.
